Opinions on the use of Xeon Quad Core processors in home computers

(1/1)

Bigdog:
I often look over the website where Dell resells their three year old off-lease computers at about 1/2 new price (and during their frequent 50% off sales, about 25% of new).  Their "fixed workstations" feature the Intel Xeon processor, like this one: "Intel Xeon Quad Core (E5-1620 v3) 3.50 GHz"

Does anybody have any thoughts about using one of these in the home office environment?  How would the speed compare to an i7 processor?

Any incompatibility problems to worry about?  Would they run Windows 10 Pro (which many of them come with) with no problem.

Thanks for any help... inquiring minds want to know.

or make a 5 post minimum to see url tags., the "NO OS" is the key seller for me, cause I can put linux/etc on it and and plus it's got a 6 core, 16GB mem, and  an onboard Nvidia Quadro K4000 (3 GB) GFX.

That means the specific computer that thepitster mentioned is now $270, not a bad deal.

so if I am only building a workstation to use only for work, no gaming, no mining as far as Intel chips I am XEON all the way..
for anything else I am AMD always.
